To provide consumers a convenient, accessible method of storing health receipts and other health documents, independent of their current employer and health plan provider, and to provide education and financial guidance to help consumers maximize the value of their HSA accounts for current and future health care expenses.
Like many company start-ups, the idea for HSA Coach was born of the founders’ experiences. Fortunately our backgrounds, Aaron, a CFP®, EA, electrical engineer and MBA, and Denise, an accountant with dual economics degrees, led to a natural pairing to fill this gap in the market.
For Aaron, who holds long-standing interests on such diverse topics as mutual funds, behavior psychology, nutrition, and US government food policy, HSA Coach represents an opportunity to make consumer health plans, and in particular, health savings accounts (HSA’s), work. With a particular emphasis on financial wellness, Aaron is passionate about enabling everyone to live the life they want through daily decisions that support their vision.
For Denise, who in addition to her day job, also has a non-professional career of helping friends, family, neighbors and employees work through the details of health plans, health network selection and real world “practical” financial advice, HSA Coach is an opportunity to place into the hands of all the people she has helped over the years a support tool that can be there for them when she cannot. Approaching life from an accountant’s perspective, Denise’s mission is to provide people a tool to help make better decisions both now and in the future.
Aaron is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and Co-Founder of HSA Coach. Aaron is passionate about health, financial wellness and achieving one’s goals in life, whatever they are. He actively encourages his friends and colleagues to read the book “Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience” by Csikszentmihalyi, and one day hopes to meet the author.
Prior to founding HSA Coach, Aaron was the CFO of HelloWallet, an online financial guidance application sold to employers as part of a financial wellness program. Morningstar (NASDAQ: MORN) purchased HelloWallet in 2014. Prior to joining HelloWallet, Aaron was the head of financial planning and Analysis (FP&A) at General Motors (NYSE: GM), and before coming to GM Aaron was an investor at the Carlyle Group (NASDAQ: CG).
Aaron started his career as a Naval Nuclear Engineer serving aboard the Navy cruiser USS California (CGN-36), before serving as a staff intelligence officer at the Pentagon. Aaron has deployed to the Arabian Gulf as part of Operation Desert Strike, as well as to Tuzla, Bosnia as part of NATO Peacekeeping Mission Operation Joint Forge.
Aaron earned a degree in electrical engineering from the US Naval Academy and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Aaron lives in McLean, VA with his wife and family.
